Over 69,000 drivers fined for speeding in early August

More than 69,000 drivers have been reported for speeding during a nationwide traffic enforcement campaign between the third and ninth of August. Guardia Civil’s Traffic Division checked more than one million vehicles, with 69,231 drivers — around 6.7 percent of those checked — found to be exceeding the speed limit. Nineteen drivers were referred to the courts after allegedly exceeding the applicable limit by more than 80 kilometres per hour.

Inflation rises 3.6% in July

The latest figures from Spain’s National Statistics Institute show annual inflation rose to 3.6 percent in July, four tenths higher than in June. Core inflation, which excludes unprocessed food and energy, increased to three percent. Transport prices rose particularly sharply, with the annual rate reaching 6.2 percent, while housing prices increased by 5.7 percent, driven partly by electricity costs. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.3 percent.
