Two detained over Zaragoza murder remanded in custody

Two people arrested over the double murder in Tauste, Zaragoza, have been remanded in provisional custody without bail. The suspects are the daughter of the victims, Javier Sánchez and Esther Latorre, and her partner. Both have been taken to Zuera prison while the investigation into the killings continues.

Massive cocaine trafficking operation smashed by police

Policia Nacional, working with Guardia Civil and the Customs Surveillance Service, has dismantled a major cocaine trafficking organisation operating along the Costa da Morte in Galicia. More than 1.6 tonnes of cocaine was seized as the drugs were being unloaded from a high-speed boat at Arnela beach in Muxía, A Coruña. Twenty-six people were arrested, including a member of the Guardia Civil, and a revolver was also seized. The investigation, which began in 2025, remains open.

Spain receives latest round of EU recovery fund

The European Commission has paid Spain 6.234 billion euros under the sixth instalment of the country’s Recovery Plan. The payment includes 5.226 billion euros in grants and 1.008 billion in loans. The government says Spain has now received around 78 billion euros from the European recovery programme, after meeting 338 milestones and targets.

The government has not confirmed that Defence Minister Margarita Robles will appear in the Senate on 18 August, despite an announcement by the PP. The government says it will respond to the request today. The proposed appearance concerns the government’s handling of the recent migration crisis in Ceuta.
