Police smash Ceuta people smuggling ring

Policía Nacional has dismantled two organisations accused of illegally transporting migrants from Ceuta to mainland Spain. Five people have been arrested in two investigations carried out in Ceuta and La Línea de la Concepción, in Cádiz province. Investigators say the networks used small boats to transport migrants across the Strait and charged up to 9,000 euros for the journeys. In one operation, officers intercepted a boat carrying seven migrants that was reportedly experiencing difficulties at sea.

Guardia Civil has deployed 132 officers to provide security for the 81st Vuelta Ciclista a España, which began yesterday in Monaco and runs until 13 September. The operation includes personnel from the Traffic Division and the Reserve and Security Group, supported by a helicopter, motorcycles, four-wheel-drive vehicles and drone and anti-drone technology. Guardia Civil has suspended its search for a suspected lion in the Sierra de San Vicente, Toledo, after a day and a half of searches. Officers used a helicopter, drones and ground patrols after a delivery driver reported seeing what he believed was a large feline.
