Witness states former PM acted as mediator in Plus Ultra rescue

A businessman under investigation in the Plus Ultra airline rescue case has told the National Court that former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero acted as a mediator in securing the government’s financial support for the airline during the pandemic.

The witness said Zapatero helped facilitate contacts surrounding the €53 million rescue package, although he did not detail the specific actions he allegedly took.

Zapatero has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has previously told investigators he never intervened in the bailout process.

The investigation into the case is continuing.
