Spain / Gibraltar border checks to be phased out

Gibraltar’s land border with Spain is set to undergo its biggest change since Brexit from tomorrow.

Under a new agreement between the United Kingdom, Spain and the European Union, routine passport checks at the border fence will be removed, allowing people to cross more freely between Gibraltar and Spain.

The arrangement is intended to preserve the free movement of workers and visitors while introducing new controls at Gibraltar’s port and airport.

Officials on both sides say the agreement provides long-term certainty for the thousands of people who cross the frontier every day for work, business and tourism.
