Pope Leo continues Spain visit with full day of meetings in Madrid

Pope Leo the Fourteenth continues his visit to Spain today with a full programme of political and religious events in Madrid.

It follows a busy opening weekend, which included meetings with the King and the Prime Minister, and large public gatherings in the capital.

This morning, the Pope meets the Prime Minister at the Apostolic Nunciature at half past nine.

At half past ten, he addresses members of Parliament at the Congress of Deputies.

He then meets the bishops of Spain at the Episcopal Conference offices, before having lunch with them at the Nunciature.

This evening, he leads prayers to Our Lady of Almudena at the Cathedral of Holy Mary of Almudena.

At seven o’clock, he meets the diocesan community at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, where large crowds are expected.

The Vatican says the visit focuses on social inclusion, migration and dialogue.

The Pope travels to Barcelona tomorrow, before continuing later in the week to Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
