Seven arrested for posing as maintenance workers to steal copper in Cantabria

The Guardia Civil has arrested seven people accused of posing as maintenance workers to steal copper in broad daylight in several towns across Cantabria.

Investigators say the group wore high‑visibility clothing and used vans and tools to imitate authorised contractors, allowing them to remove wiring and other materials without raising suspicion.

The thefts caused significant damage to public infrastructure and disrupted local services.

Officers recovered large quantities of stolen copper and equipment during the operation, and the investigation remains open to identify additional accomplices.
