Interior Ministry Activates Second Phase of Semana Santa Traffic Operation With 10 Million Journeys Expected

The Interior Ministry has launched the second phase of the Semana Santa ‘Operación Salida’, with nearly 10 million road journeys expected nationwide.

The DGT has activated a special traffic‑management plan, deploying extra patrols of the Guardia Civil’s traffic unit and increasing surveillance on major routes.

Authorities warn of heavy congestion at peak times, particularly on routes leaving Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville.

Drivers are being urged to plan ahead, avoid risky manoeuvres and respect rest times.

The operation will remain active through the holiday period, with the aim of reducing accidents during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.
