Carlos Mazón Resigns as Valencian Regional President

Carlos Mazón has announced his resignation as President of the Valencian Community today, stating a need for new leadership amidst ongoing challenges.
Mazón indicated that his decision to resign was influenced by a recent state funeral declaring that he had faced a whirlwind of criticism concerning his handling of last years fatal flooding in the region.
Alongside his resignation, he admitted to acknowledging his mistakes, including allowing misinformation to propagate during the crisis.
PP leader – Alberto Núñez Feijóo – has backed his resignation saying that Mazón experienced a political witch-hunt.
Feijóo has urged Vox and other parties to act responsibly in electing a new president for the region, highlighting the need to prioritise the interests of Valencia’s people.
However associations representing victims of the flood have condemned the resignation announcement, calling it indignant.
They intend to continue seeking a custodial sentence for his handling of the October 2024 disaster.
