Policia Nacional have arrested sixteen individuals following the deaths of seventy migrants who are believed to have drowned whilst crossing to the Canary Islands.
The boat – which was adrift for eleven days – had over three hundred passengers.
Witnesses, including survivors, suggest that some individuals were violently thrown overboard, while others succumbed to dehydration during the voyage.
Meanwhile a court in El Hierro have confirmed that they are investigating two of the deaths as possible murders.
