This months wildfires have led to a record rise in carbon emissions.
The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service reports that more than three hundred thousand hectares have been devastated in the blazes, with that area expected to grow due to further fires still remaining ablaze.
Monitoring from the Spanish air quality surveillance network reveals a significant deterioration in air quality across much of the country, as soot and smoke particles cross the Iberian peninsular.
Smoke from the fires has also been detected as far away as France and the UK.
