Zapatero denies influence over Plus Ultra bail out

Former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has denied exerting any influence over the government’s rescue of Plus Ultra airline during the pandemic.

Speaking in relation to the ongoing National Court investigation in Madrid, Zapatero said he did not speak to anyone at SEPI or within the government regarding the airline’s €53 million rescue package.

He has consistently denied any wrongdoing and maintains he played no role in the decision to approve the bailout.

Judicial authorities continue to examine whether the rescue complied with the legal requirements in force at the time.
