Government approves extraordinary regularisation for migrants already living in Spain

The government has approved the royal decree launching the extraordinary regularisation process for migrants who already reside in Spain.

Government spokesperson Elma Saiz called it “one of the great milestones of the legislature,” stressing that the beneficiaries are people who “live among us” and will now be able to enjoy full rights and fulfil their obligations.

She noted that Spain has carried out six regularisations since 1986, benefiting nearly 1.3 million people, and cited official projections warning that reducing migration would sharply cut GDP, shrink the population and strain public services.

Saiz highlighted that 43% of jobs created since the labour reform have been filled by foreign workers, underscoring their role in economic growth and demographic renewal.
