Death toll rises to 41 in high-speed rail crash
share close

The death toll from the high-speed train collision near Adamuz in Córdoba province has now risen to 41 confirmed fatalities, with dozens more injured.

Two high-speed services — an Iryo train travelling from Málaga to Madrid and a Renfe service from Madrid to Huelva — derailed and collided on Sunday evening.

Recovery and identification work is continuing, and a three-day period of national mourning has been declared.

Investigators say early findings point to a possible break in the track as a contributing factor, though the cause has not yet been formally confirmed.

The Prime Minister has expressed condolences to the victims’ families, as has the British Embassy, which said it shares in the sorrow of those affected.
