Fugitive Marbella Councillor Carlos Fernández Arrested After Nineteen Years

A former councillor from Marbella who had been on the run for 19-years has been arrested at Madrid-Barajas Airport.

Carlos Fernández was detained after arriving on a flight from Argentina.

Extradition attempts to return him to Spain failed in 2022, with Argentinean authorities saying that his case had expired.

He is due to face trial on suspicion of misappropriation of approximately seventy million euros in public funds.
